Meta Muse vs ChatGPT: which AI agent should you use?
Meta Muse is a free personal agent for errands like bookings, shopping and cancellations, in the US and Canada. ChatGPT's agent features (ChatGPT Work, and Dots on Pro) suit longer jobs with your files and apps, and work almost everywhere. Here is how they differ on price, countries and what people use them for.
Pick Meta Muse if you live in the US or Canada and want an agent for everyday errands: it is free with a usage limit, works in its own app or WhatsApp, and Meta says it asks before it sends an email or buys anything. Pick ChatGPT if you are elsewhere, already use ChatGPT, or want help with longer jobs using your files and apps: ChatGPT Work comes with every plan in the desktop app, including Free with limits, and Plus ($20/mo) adds web, mobile and scheduled tasks. ChatGPT's own cloud agent, Dots, comes with Pro (from $100/mo), outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK.

How each one works
Meta Muse runs in a secure virtual computer with its own browser, so it keeps working after you close the app. You use it in the Muse app or in WhatsApp. Meta says it asks you before it sends email or makes a purchase, that a separate checking agent approves its actions on the internet, and that payments use one-time cards through Link by Stripe (Meta newsroom). At Connect, Meta added computer use on a Mac, an email address for Muse and connections to stores like Walmart, Best Buy and Instacart (Meta Connect 2026).
ChatGPT Work is built into ChatGPT for longer, multi-step jobs. It can use more than 1,400 plugins, run scheduled tasks and make a plan before it starts (OpenAI). In the desktop app it can work with files on your computer when you give permission, and it shares usage limits with Codex (OpenAI Help). Dots are separate agents with their own cloud computer, for Pro users and Business Premium (OpenAI Help). OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux wrote on X that Dots are included in all Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans.
What people use them for

Writer Jonathan Sullivan used Muse and a ChatGPT Dot side by side and wrote up his experience. His Dot booked his mother's 75th birthday dinner and followed up with the restaurant, and it knew more about him from ChatGPT's memory. Muse connected to his iCloud calendar, while the Dot could only reach Google Calendar at first, and he preferred having Muse as its own app. Both stopped and asked before paying. That is one person's report, not a test.
Things to know before you choose
- Amazon blocks Muse shopping. In September 2026 Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on Amazon.com, Engadget reported, so use it for other stores.
- ChatGPT Free and Go are desktop only for Work, and event-triggered tasks are not on those plans.
