Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork: which agent fits you?
Grok Bot is xAI's personal agent that works on its own cloud computer and comes with X Premium and up. Claude Cowork is how Claude carries out tasks with your files, connected apps and schedules, starting with Claude Pro. Here is how they differ on price, phone calls, local files, safety steps and what people really use them for.
Pick Grok Bot if your jobs are errands out in the world: chasing a company, booking a hotel, filling in a claim form or, now that calls are rolling out, phoning a business. It comes with X Premium ($30/mo) or higher and shares one usage pool with Grok chat and Cursor. Pick Claude Cowork if your jobs are mostly documents, spreadsheets and folders on your own computer, or if you want a cheaper start. It comes with Claude Pro ($20/mo, or $17/mo billed yearly) and Max.

How each one works
Grok Bot runs on its own computer in xAI's cloud, so it works while your phone and laptop are off. You give it access to the accounts it needs, like email and calendar, and talk to it in the Grok app, by voice or in Slack. Its changelog shows recent additions such as a Vault that saves your logins, cards and contact details so it can fill them in, and approval cards for actions it's unsure about. On October 25, Elon Musk announced that it can now call a person or business for you and send you a summary. Users report it rolling out in waves, and as of October 27 it isn't in xAI's docs or changelog yet.
Claude Cowork is the part of Claude that carries out tasks. Since October 6, 2026, new Cowork tasks on Pro and Max run in Anthropic's cloud and keep going when your laptop is closed (Claude Help). It reads and writes files in folders you connect on your computer, but only while the Claude desktop app is open there. Browser use and computer use (in beta) also need the desktop app. We found no phone calling on Anthropic's pages.
What people use them for
Grok Bot has more posts in our feed than any other agent. Recent ones: booking a hotel and a bus seat for someone stuck in rural Japan, turning a washer repair claim into a full buyback, finding about $200 in unclaimed property and filling in the claim, and finding $121 a month in forgotten subscriptions. See all Grok Bot use cases.
Claude Cowork posts are more about files: drafting rental property tax forms from saved documents, writing replies to the emails that need one, and cutting about 20 video clips in a folder into a teaser. See all Claude Cowork use cases.
There are lessons on both sides. A Cowork user had an inbox skill send an email it was only meant to draft. Cowork can't see your laptop files while the desktop app is closed. With Grok Bot, the main thing to watch is that heavy use in Grok chat or Cursor leaves less for the Bot. These are reports from real posts, not our tests.
Things to know before you choose
- Phone calls are only on one side, and they're new. Grok Bot's calling was announced on October 25 and isn't documented yet, so check that your app has it. For calls you can count on today, see have an AI agent call customer service.
- Local files favor Cowork. If the job lives in folders on your computer, Cowork reaches them while the desktop app is open. Grok Bot works from the accounts and files you give it in the cloud.
- Saved cards need care. Grok Bot's Vault can fill in cards at checkout. Keep a rule that it asks before every payment.
- Watch shared usage. Both plans share one allowance across several products, so a busy week of coding can leave less for errands.

Jobs both can do
Check and dispute a medical bill with an AI agent
Medical bills and insurance statements are long and full of codes. An agent can line them up, flag charges that look wrong and draft the dispute or appeal, while you check the math and approve what gets sent.
Lower a bill with an AI agent
Your internet, phone or insurance price crept up. An agent can read the bill, compare offers and ask your provider for a better price, with you approving each step.
Gather tax documents and fill in a draft
Tax season means hunting through email and bank accounts. An agent can collect the documents and draft the forms for you to review.
