Hermes researched every race on his sample ballot
The night before the election, he asked Hermes Agent to find his sample ballot on his state Secretary of State's website and research the candidates. He got a report on every office on the ballot, down to city races, with each candidate's past offices and earlier elections they had run in. What he liked most was that it looked for what he wanted to know rather than what local news chose to cover. Down-ballot races are where most people know the least, so starting from the official ballot is the right move. Check anything surprising against the candidate's own site or a nonpartisan voter guide.
Copy this prompt
Find my sample ballot for the [DATE] election on my state or county election office's official website for [ADDRESS OR PRECINCT]. For every race and measure, list the candidates or the measure's wording. For each candidate, give past offices, earlier elections and results, and their stated positions on [TOPICS I CARE ABOUT], with a link to each source. Use official and nonpartisan sources first. Don't tell me who to vote for.
Our own prompt, written from what the source describes. We haven't run it ourselves. Text in [BRACKETS] is what you replace.
Watch out for
- Use your official sample ballot. Ballots differ by precinct, even in the same city.
- Check claims against the candidate's own site or a nonpartisan voter guide. Agents can mix up people with the same name.
