Cancel unused subscriptions and get a renewal refunded
The poster told ChatGPT's agent, Dots, to find services he no longer uses and unsubscribe from them. He says he woke up to about $80 back in his PayPal account: one service had renewed itself overnight, and Dots contacted its support team and made the case for a refund. He doesn't say which service it was or how many subscriptions it cancelled.
Poster's claim, not verified: About $80 refunded to PayPal for a subscription that renewed on its own, as reported by the poster.
Copy this prompt
Go through my email receipts and my PayPal and card statements from the last 12 months and list every subscription: name, price, how often it bills and when I last used it, if you can tell. Mark the ones I don't seem to use. Don't cancel anything yet. When I pick the ones to cancel, cancel them one by one and send me the confirmation for each. If one renewed in the last few days and I haven't used it, draft a short refund request to its support team and show it to me before you send it.
Our own prompt, written from what the source describes. We haven't run it ourselves. Text in [BRACKETS] is what you replace.
Watch out for
- Check the list before anything gets cancelled. Agents can mistake a yearly plan you still use for a forgotten one.
- A refund after renewal is up to the company. Many say no, so treat any money back as a bonus.
- Keep the cancellation emails. They are your proof if you get charged again.
