ChatGPT won a five-agent air fryer price hunt
Mike ran Agent Shootout 3: the same prompt to five agents to find the best price on a Ninja AF101 4-quart air fryer delivered to Raleigh, NC 27601. Research only, no carts or sign-ins. ChatGPT's agent passed all 8 checklist items in about 1.3 minutes and picked Best Buy at $119.99 with free shipping. Genspark also passed all 8 but took about 5 minutes. Grok and Manus got partials. The lesson he stresses: marketplace prices on Walmart shifted by seller, and the cheapest number in a table is the one to verify first, not the one to trust first.
Copy this prompt
Find the best current price on a [PRODUCT MODEL] delivered to [ZIP]. Check 4 to 6 well known US retailers. For each, give a direct product-page link, the price, whether it is on sale, shipping to my zip, whether it is sold by the retailer or a marketplace seller, and the return window. Make a table sorted by item plus shipping before tax. Label any coupon or membership I might not have. Research only: do not add to a cart, sign in, or contact sellers. Flag anything you could not verify.
Our own prompt, written from what the source describes. We haven't run it ourselves. Text in [BRACKETS] is what you replace.
Watch out for
- Marketplace seller prices change by the minute. Re-open the link yourself before you buy.
- An agent quoting a price does not make the price real. Verify the cheapest row first.
- Tell the agent not to sign in or create accounts. That keeps the comparison cleaner.
